2017 British Universities Swimming Championships in Sheffield

It's been yet another busy weekend for our swimmers with a number competing at the British Universities Swimming Championships in Sheffield.

Charlotte Atkinson and Laura Kinley were both competing for Loughborough and helped their team to retain the overall title and the women's title of best team. Charlotte swam all 3 butterfly events, setting Gold Coast Commonwealth Games consideration times in every race and winning gold in every final. Her 50m fly winning time of 27.02 was a new Island Record. Her winning time of 2:09.93 in the 200m fly was not only a new Island record, but also a new BUCS record. It ranks her 9th in the world and 2nd in the Commonwealth! She was also a part of Loughborough's gold medal winning 4x100m medley relay team.

Laura competed in the 200m breaststroke, achieving a Gold Coast time in the heats and finals and winning the silver medal in a new Island Record of 2:32.71.

Guy Davies was swimming for Bath Uni and achieved Gold Coast Long Course minimum times in the heats of the 50m and 200m breaststroke. In the final of the 200 he finished 8th in a Gold Coast time.

Mark Copparelli was returning to competition after his trip to the USA and it was great to see some strong swims from him as he competed for Keele Uni in the backstroke events.

Amy Kinley was swimming for Sheffield Hallam and put in some strong performances in the 50 free and 50 fly.

Well done to you all.
