Announcement from Clive Parrish

As you may be aware Paul Jones, a Sports Consultant, was appointed by IOM Sport last year to undertake a review of two sports on the island to establish what those sports need to do to continue to improve and to develop the ‘international athletes of the future’.

The Association successfully applied to be part of this process and Paul was invited to undertake a review of ‘Aquatic Sport’ and to make recommendations as to how the Association might develop the sport and continue to improve – maximising opportunities for athletes in the future.

Paul gathered significant amounts of information and opinions over a period of approximately 12 weeks about swimming on the Island and has identified the strengths, weaknesses challenges and opportunities that the Association faces.

The report recognises that the Isle of Man Swimming has solid foundations which are a great platform from which we hope to be able to launch the sport to the next level.

Paul presented an overview of his findings to the Executive Committee on Monday 30th January and tabled a number of recommendations.

The Committee are currently considering the way forward and will, with Paul’s assistance’ consider the recommendations and will be creating some ‘Action Plans’ over the next 6 – 8 weeks.

Once these action plans have been drafted we will hold a presentation evening and present the findings and the Executives plans for taking ‘Aquatic Sport’ on the island to the next level.

We hope that you will be as excited as us about the possibilities for the future and we encourage as many of you as possible to attend and get involved in this exciting journey.

Details of the presentation date will be published in the near future.
